Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will fight Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin on DAZN (see waivers) on September 17 in a long-awaited rematch trilogy.
The third matchup between the undisputed Mexican super middleweight champion and the Kazakh unified middleweight will see the pair move weights from the last divisions they competed in.
Golovkin fought Ryota Murata earlier this year to become the IBF and WBA champion at 160 pounds, while Canelo fought earlier in May in a bid to become light heavyweight champion for the second time in his career. , they managed a loss to Dmitry Bivol.
The previous two fights between the pair were well-matched and spectacular events, with the last one coming four years ago when Canelo secured a fixed majority decision victory after drawing him a year earlier in 2017.
“I feel very happy and proud to be able to give the best fights and this fight will not be the exception,” Álvarez said.
Golovkin added: “I hope to see you on September 17.”
“The Canelo trilogy vs. GGG is the biggest fight in boxing and I am thrilled to have it scheduled for September 17,” said Eddie Hearn, President of Matchroom Boxing.
“These are two men who bitterly dislike each other and want to end this incredible series with a crushing KO. I truly believe this will be the most exciting fight between these two great champions and it will be fireworks from the first bell to the last man standing.”
